If your talking about your own children, well thats just sad. But the way you discribe children, it does'nt sound like you have had the pleasure of watching and raising children. They are precious, each and everyone. Truly sorry you have that hate in your heart and mind towards children. Best of luck to you.

Are you naturally stupid or do you take lessons?
Read the post. The point is that trolling is childish not that children are like trolls. Well not all of them anyway.

Hate in my heart towards children? Fuck off.

Well, for a writer it must be hard when folks take you too literally. Of course children are egocentric, and selfish; the world does and must revolve around them from their perspective. To metaphorically refer to child-like behavior ("the innocence of babes") in no way implies a contempt for child-like traits; only a recognition that children are children and adults are adults (in general).

Of course, I understand that MS and LC have their hearts in the right place in the sense of elevating children to a proper place in our world, but having accepted that, it is reasonable to allow one literary license to make a point by repetitively enumerating the traits that in children can be tolerated, accepted, even admired, but that in adults can be annoying, irritating and even denigrated.

Damn--may have jeopardized that 'good guy' award MS had in mind...hope not.

Hang in there Rob. Help is on the way...

"it is reasonable to allow one literary license to make a point by repetitively enumerating the traits that in children can be tolerated, accepted, even admired, but that in adults can be annoying, irritating and even denigrated."

if so, what is to say the metaphor in question cannot also be correctly interpreted to imply tolerance, acceptance and admiration towards the behavior of trolls, while at the same time, the behavior of children is what is seen to be annoying, irritating and even denigrated?

furthermore, "Trolls and little children..." refers to each, both jointly and separately...clearly the author of the post in question has chosen to use tools that cut in both directions

as a parent, my experiences with children have been entirely different...i have found episodes of tantrums, utter egocentricity, utter non empathy, complete selfishness, non concept of value or of sharing, to be occasional exceptions, not continual absolutes...some people say i was just lucky...i say most children somehow manage to triumph in spite of all of the inadequacies of their parents

as for the complaints about the noise, grubby finger marks, mewling, puking and soiling?

WTF???

don't choose to be a parent or be around children if you can't handle it...besides, the vast majority of children in this world are far too pre-occupied with the excruciating pain of their own starvation to be concerned with interfering with our ever so precious feng shui

there is no need to involve children in the forum's petty little troll wars

Well MS, you have strong feelings on the subject, and because I sense they are motivated from your strong love of children, I will cease and desist as I value our friendship--if we were face to face I imagine we could easily come to an understanding...I do think we have fundamentally similar positions on the issues of substance, and our only difference is in divining the heart and soul of Rob (ie, where he stands on this) and whether this writing effort of his belies something more to his makeup (your position) or not (mine).

Neither of us can really know; but thanks for responding to me, and hope we're cool.

Although you seem to enjoy being prolific and thorough in you use of words, it is not universally appreciated. Some see prose and articulation as a positive trait, most others see over usage of language as a negative, gloating and elitist trait. When you need to say that the light is gree, don't say. "I detect blended frequencies if both blue and yellow waves of agitated electrons that converge at a point on that incandescant or sodium phosphorus illumination apparatus".

That would be like me writing intricate and complex musical pieces using farts, burps and retard noises... oh wait, bad example. A better example would be watching the "great train robbery" on a HD 5.1 surround system. The black and white, silent movie won't look any better. So let's ditch the reading glasses on the end of the nose, corncob pipe in red silk robe in front of the fireplace with dickens on the shelf persona, shall we?

Keep it real, touch hands and come out fighting.

ding ding

Ouch. I take your point. But only because I am a half assed writer. How would Hunter have fared if he followed your advice? And of course, I ain't no Hunter, sadly.

Lets agree to disagree, shall we? Writing is good for your soul--so keep it up. I will; with or without my reading jacket, pipe and glasses...and, I can accept you don't like it, nor my style, nor...okay, so just stop reading it...

Hey you and me both! Not sure where it came from, but now I find out that Noise C thinks I am an aloof, overbearing pretentious writer in a smoking jacket! Jeeezzz--can't win for losing around here.

Hang in there!

Evidently you did'nt proof read your 1st post. Anyone who reads that and does'nt think you have a poor opinion of children, well thats just sad. If you re-read your post and do not think anything is "wrong" with your remarks about children perhaps you should be neutered. It really sound like that already has been taken care of.

"...little children are utterly egocentric beings..."
"...little children are completely selfish..."

try including that in the preface of your next book and see where your career goes

come on rob, as much as i would like to believe otherwise, your post shows nothing but contempt for children...you didn't have one good thing to say about them

...i can't believe that you, of all people, you would write this :(
